Funny thing happened on Wednesday. My partner and I arrested a man for disorderly behaviour after swearing at us at flipping us the bird. He didn't comply and actively resisted arrest so I took him down while my partner sat on his back. He still kept fighting so I chucked on a guillotine choke...nice and hard and it immediately took the fight out of him so my partner could cuff him.

Later on in the patrol car he actually congratulated me on my choke saying it was really good and that he was seconds away from passing out. I said I didn't want to trade blows with him but rather stop him from fighting. He agreed that I certainly achieved that because once I had it on he said he didn't want to fight anymore.

Nice to have his endorsement!

I know how effective chokes are. But did you know that neck chokes of any kind are NOT on the UK Police Officer Safety training syllabus. To me that is ridiculous.

Not when you look at how the syllabus is compiled and approved.
