In spite of

Post  Chris on Fri Feb 15, 2013 2:48 am

Hello all,

A quick question I have started asking myself whenever I see someone who can really have a fight.

Are they formidable

- because of their training
-in spite of their training
-without any formal training at all.

I have seen a large number who were scrappers in spite of the training that they had. Their inherent traits made them formidable and the training was simply an outlet. They could habe turned tiddlywinks into a contact sport.

How about you? Do you ask what makes the fighter beyond simply acknowledging that they can scrap when push comes to shove.

Interesting Chris,

I have often thought that the person who makes the most successful fighter, outside of the sporting arena of course is the person with the least concern for consequence be it for the law and the aftermath or the what damage they are going to inflict on their opponant.

those who want it most... get it most

mindset and the desire to win make up the components of good scrappers... the rest is polish

I agree with Dave.

The desire to win, the hunger, the desperation, the mental hardness...whatever you want to call it, is the main attribute.

Absolutely. I think this had something to do with my abilities.

In school I wasn't the 7 stones weakling. I was the kid who got picked on by the 7 stones weaklings.

I had neither the stength or the courage to fight back. Until one day when I snapped and beat the living daylights out of a guy I never would have believed I'd beat in a million years.

But after years of bullying the desire to put his lights out put me in the right mindset at that particular time.

And it had a lot to do with what I went on to do. And to get where I am now.

Hard to say or pin point it ime, some of the best scrappers I have seen have no formal training at all, its just in them, others have an air about them, its like you can smell it, I think it all boils down to the company one keeps......some people I know have trained for years, have lived well, middle class or just plain nice people who know not what kind of dudes are out there, no amount of training or going to seminars on ouda loop this and ouda loop that is good enough I'm afraid......
