Kettlebell weights,doubles,singles.

Post  Buster on Sat Jun 25, 2011 1:11 am

Hi

I was just wondering for the guys that own kettlebells what weights do you own?

Are many of you doing double kettlebell work or singles?

I recently sold a 12kg and a 16kg,,my missus stopped using the 12 and i only used the 16 for the EDT workouts.

Im left with a 16 and 24kg now,i have been offered another 24 and have been looking at a 28kg.

Not sure what to do,i cant afford both,if my memory serves me right i tweaked my back with double work so that raises concerns but double 24's represent a heavier workload than than the single 28kg.

But then are kettlebells with the exception of the double clean and jerk used in competition meant to be used mostly with one hand?

Thoughts guys?

If you have a 16, a 24 and a 32, you can do nearly everything you want. With time, you can add a second 16, a second 24 and a second 32. There's no rush.

You can easily beat yourself up with a 16. Try this, which is stolen from Dan John: On the top of the minute do 20 swings and x pressups. First round is 20 swings and 10 pressups, second round is 20 swings and 9 pressups and so on until you are doing 20 swings and one pressup. Ten minutes and you are done.

I have a 16, 2 x 24's and 2 x 32's.

I'm looking at getting 2 x 40's but the cost is quite steep in NZ.

I use both singles and doubles depending on the program. Doubles do give your body more to work with and probably do benefit you better in the long term but they are not essential.

Hi

Thanks for the replys.
I had a think and decided to make the 16&24kg my bitches and 'earn' a heavier weight or a double.

Apart from the secret service snatch test what would be a good battery of tests to show competency before moving to a heavier bell/s?

Do you do goblet squats? They get pretty boring with a 24k pretty quickly...

Im not a big fan of pistols to be honest. If I wanted to work one leg at a time, I'd rather do heavy step-ups or just run up a bloody big hill...

Apologies if this is not directly on topic but I just bought one of these from the clearance section and thought I'd share it- what an absolute bargain!!!

I was originally looking for a 20/24 but at that price I'm simply gonna have to adapt!

Are these decent bells? Cheap but if wrong shape will be a waste of cash, anyone used one?

Socrates,

Try double KB squats , double KB lunges, double KB squat press, full body attack or double KB clean and push presses.

The only double KBs I've got are the 32s, so I'm leaving that until I'm stronger...

one 12 two 16's two 20's and a 32 that doesn't see much use. I'm starting to use a 24 at the session a lot though so I want to invest in at least one.

A good doubles exercise is 5 swings, 5 squats and five press' do it with a partner and repeat 3 times. Use a challenging weight and you'll feel the bugger after. I'm on 20's for this atm.

Today actually he had us on an outdoor 5 aside pitch and we had a KB in each and and were walking the length of the pitch doing a press with each step.

So yeah there are a lot of stuff you can do with two but also there is plenty you can do with one so... its up to you lol

Jagunco/everyone,

You could try this for a 24kg. http://www.wolverson-fitness.co.uk/Clearance_B23OBZ.aspx

I regularly have a peek at Wolverson's clearance section. You can find find some great bargains now and then.

These particular ones are used but there's only so much damage you can do to a Kettlebell.

Take care,

Zak
