Newbie.

Post  Raymond Page on Thu Jan 27, 2011 1:32 am

Hi all.
I'm new to self protection/defence/martial arts,I used to " lurk " on the other site and learnt lots of stuff, from all who posted there, many thanks. Wink
I've never been to a self protection class, but I'm going to change that in the not too distant future.
A couple of questions,if I may,I'm 57 years young and not very fit,so I'm wondering,do you have to be super fit to attend said classes ?
How much do classes cost,or do they vary in price ?
I live in Hertfordshire and will be looking to hopefully find somewhere close to where I live, any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Raymond and welcome Very Happy

You are not to old at all fella nor too fat or unfit, self-protection is for everyone.

You will usually find a wide range of abilities, ages and fitness levels at most classes and everyone will be friendly. I would highly recomend an SDF club for quality, good people and sensible money. I am sure Dave Turton will have a club near you.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I've found a Gym in Watford ( New Spartan Gym )and they are starting a 6 week course/introduction for beginners in February/March,all ages and levels of fitness welcome. Cool
Teaching amongst other things,Awareness,avoidence,pre-emption,power strikes and basic floorwork.
All for 45,sounds good to me. Wink

Hi Raymond,
Fitness can come with personal protection classes. It's not a requirement, or, shouldn't be. A concept driven system, with easy to learn techniques that can be used almost as reflex, coupled with movement that uses all the body, instead of one side for example, might be things to look for, Smile.
