Vincent Jauncey's son Josh making his own name

Post  steve morris on Wed Mar 12, 2008 2:40 am

Here's a clip of young Josh, the son of my former student Vincent Jauncey, who held world, European, and British titles in Muay Thai/kickboxing.

Kid's a natural. I'm already a fan!

Not only does he chop downward at his opponents face with his punches but he can do it with his kicks too! That is something I was always unable to do with my legs and was impressed by those who could. The other kid looked like he was looking for shots while he seemed to pick his opponent apart and knew exactly what he wanted to do . Impressive....how old?

I'm pretty sure he's 14. Good fighter, yeah? That's around the age Vince was when he was knocking guys out at Earlham Street.

I like his front kicks and how he uses them. I also like his round kick. I looked at the Gonzaga kick again (Cro Cop) recently and he kind of gets the side of his shin to Mirko's jaw. This kid completely turns his body (head leading) and turns the kick over hitting with the top of the shin.

The other thing I liked is how he puts things together "on the move." He hits up top and "as he is moving in" somehow shoots out a low kick almost like a sweep to the lower shin. And he keeps getting his head out of the way. Very fluid.

Wow, this kid looks exceptional for 14.
I like his movement, control and power, plus the way he attacks mixing upper/lower and left/right strikes in a very fluid way.
The more I train (and watch fights) the more I agree with Steve Morris that strikes should chop down, be cyclical and retracted quickly and that stances should be open and 'natural' allowing both sides of the body to attack.
Seems like this kid is doing all this already - and at such a young age!

The way he throws low kicks remind me to Remin Bonjaski.

After I watch that "Kidīs fight" (and Kidīs K.O.), dispite my objections against to put kids in full-contact tournaments, I found some similarities with some movement patterns showed in Morris Method.
Of course, Steve Morris technnical influence reaches beyond a third generation of student too.
So, born a question (maybe yet answered):

In my actual view, ANYONE can replicate Steveīs methods because NO ONE else is Steve Morris.
It was Steveīs life that brought to life his method. You can try and duplicate it, but Morris Method is Steve Morris.
Steve Morris is a master of fight movement and body biomechanics - period.
It is the man himself more so than the "method".
So, this explain why we need to train directly and personally under one coach to "catch" yours "spirit".

Mr. Morris, after some decades in a distant future, probably you will be replace by someone (your son, a young student... who knows?).
How to preserve Morris Method without creat a "traditional" version?

After Bruce Leeīs death, the evolution started by the young JKDīs founder stoped. The same thing happened in another methods too. And probably will still. How to fix it?

The method is not about me. It's about how to train.

I'm not into Bruce Lee and legacies and crap like that.

Josh isn't anything to do with me except that he's the son of a guy I trained. He's a talented young fighter who's grown up in a gym, and I don't claim any credit for his accomplishments. I influenced his dad, and that's it.

I don't want people to copy the way I move, drive the car I drive, wear the clothes I wear. My method is about a way of training, an approach to training that I can give to people. That's all it is. There's no magic.

The last thing I would want is a bunch of clones! That's the whole fucking thing I'm absolutely against.

Hey guys. Vincent here. Thatnks for the positive comments on Josh !! Of course we use all the training and technique I learnt from years of training with Mr Morris!
Mr Morris do you remember the spinning back kick I caught that guy in the head with, when we had the "fighting grading". I think I was about 15 then. You went " Ow good one!" Then remembered you were refing!!! LOL
Josh is just 15, he had his first fight at 9, and so far is up to 5 fights. He loves it. I don't push him to it. He just loves to train and fight!
Spends a lot of his spare time watching fights and studying the movement and techniques.
The fight was supposed to be with headgear and shin pads on. The other guys camp did'nt seem to want them and were'nt bothered! Nor was the promoter, I asked the other guys coach about 3 times about padding ( because of there age), he made no effort to get some. I was'nt worried for Josh, it was the other kid, I know how hard Josh can kick!! And we saw what happened !!

Good deal Vincent. The boy looks talented and that means he is training hard. There are a lot worse things a 15 year old can be doing...you should be proud.....I know you are.

Yeah, I remember that. But what I remember most about that was trying to get that bloody rubbery plasticky headguard off. I nearly pulled the guy's head off with it! So not only was he knocked out but he was nearly minus a head. Great days...

Those fucking duck feet. Don't remind me. When you used to phone me up and tell me that you or Floyd were going to fight in those things, it drove me crazy. Because I'd always say, 'Take fights where you can kick him in the legs.'

The guy who invented those things should have been shot.

Josh, you don't need me to tell you that in his day your dad was a really exceptional martial artist and athlete. And from what I gather, he still is.

We'll be watching your progress! You've got at least two fans over here, myself and Tommy P.

Keep us posted on what you've got coming up. And undoubtedly we're going to meet one day. Vince can't stay in them thar hills forever!

Hi Rob Mac, Vincent here. I taught in Spain for a year. In 1989 at a gym in Estapona, Costa Del Sol. Taught Muay Thai there. Had to go back to England, everyone disapeared to the beach in the summer.
Cheers good training !!!
