Pre-emptive strike -- who is practising

Post  Alan Bec on Sun Aug 27, 2006 10:04 am

1] Do you practise the pre-emptive and how often.

2] How do you practise it.

3] How do you feel about it.

1] Do you practise the fence and how often. - Do you mean do I practise pre-emptives? If so then 3/4ish times a month I'd say

2] How do you practise it. - with a partner, on pads, on Spar Pro, on HammerHead, drills!

3] How do you feel about it. - fine, though are you looking for more here Alan!?

Not at all James, just opening up some points for discussion.

1) Yes, every day.

2) On the heavybag, focus mitts, or BOB.

3) I feel that when practiced sufficiently to the point that it looks natural and unassuming, it is VERY effective in most encounters. I have used the fence countless times in real situations, mostly (and this is the beauty of it) without having to get physical.

1. 2 times a week

2. On Rusty while he is wearing a fist helmet and a home made bullit man helmet.

3.It's the most important part of self defence. I have used the fence to get out of lots of potential fights.

1] Do you practise the pre-emptive and how often.
Yes, every lesson. The 'Pre-emtive' is the main-stay of our SD/SP training.

2] How do you practise it.
Working with a partner (2's and 3's), pad work, using our 'Tuff Guys', scenario/situation work.

3] How do you feel about it.
Pre-emtive's are a necessary SD/SP tool.

Take care,

Garth.

The pre empt is the main stay of my training. I practice it at least in 1/2 the sessions I have, whether it be with a real person or reliable old Bob!

without a decent understanding and ability using 'pre-emptives',.. you are missing out on a vital and important part of SP/SD

Alan,can i add a fourth question?

4]Do you just practice one pre-emptive technique,or do you practice a few different pre-empts to "cover all bases"?

1] Do you practise the pre-emptive and how often

Every day. Power slap and/or left hook

2] How do you practise it

By talking to, then hitting, my second hand BOB.

3] How do you feel about it.

I've never used the strike in a real situation, only against BOB and on pads in the Dojo so my self confidence isn't 100%.
